In short
A colour looks different depending on what sits next to it, because of how our eyes process colour. A sample chosen in the showroom, surrounded by everything else, is generally not the same as seeing it at home in your own lighting. So take the sample home for a few days, see it morning and evening, then decide.
In this video
- Colours placed next to each other look different from how they look alone.
- That is how our eyes process colour.
- A showroom sample surrounded by other colours is not the same as at home.
- Take the sample home for a few days and see it morning and evening.
What is said in the video
This is something I always tell people, and it sounds a bit sciency, but bear with me. When you put colours next to each other, the one in the middle looks different to how it looks on its own. It's just how our eyes process colour. So when you pick a sample in the showroom surrounded by everything else in here, it's generally not the same as seeing it at home in your own lighting.
That's why we always say, take the sample home, live with it for a few days, see it in the morning, see it in the evening, and then decide.
This video is part of our guide, Choosing kitchen colours and lighting, which goes into more detail.
